Location – Maaya. An isolated village approximately 10km North West of Mubende.  Problem – Due to lack of housing in the surrounding area the school found it difficult to retain teachers. Due to its isolated location, water supply was also a problem. Scope of Works – Phase 1 - Construct four teachers houses in two blocks of two, one new classroom and two 10,000 litre water tanks - to harvest rainwater from the building roofs.
Construction Period – 01/07/06 to 01/01/07   Budget - Phase 1 - £10,000 Funding – The Local Authority Building Control Association, UK - Peter Brett Associates, UK - Rotary Club of Abingdon - Proceeds from sales of the CD “Lost in Africa (Found in Uganda)” - Various fund raising events - The local community in Maaya provided 10% of the building materials

Interesting Facts – The flexible design of the teacher’s houses means that each block can be split into two or four separate dwellings. - One of the existing school classrooms was converted into a dormitory and the volunteers lived there for the duration of the project. The beds were then used in the new teachers housing.
